The numbers

Every figure on the page ships with its source — value, source name, year, URL, and retrieved date — visible on tap where the number appears, and collected in the project's source ledger. Each number is re-verified against the primary source at build time.

Status: all five verses carry data re-verified against primary sources on 2026-07-16 — World Inequality Lab WP 2024/09; ADR/National Election Watch (Lok Sabha 2024 winners + re-elected MPs); NJDG (live, re-pulled on launch day); NCRB Prison Statistics India 2024; IndiaSpend; India Justice Report 2025; National Health Accounts 2021-22; ASER 2024; Asher, Novosad & Rafkin (AEJ: Applied 2024). Every number's verbatim quote, URL and retrieval date is on the page behind its "where's this from?" chip; the full ledger (including corrections made to the working brief) lives in the repository as METHODOLOGY.md.

Every verse also states the honest counter-trend, even where it softens the point. Figures are aggregate and party-neutral. Figures are as retrieved on the date shown beside each one.

The counter

Answering the question at the end stores one row: your choice (“knew” / “didn’t”) and a timestamp. Nothing else. No IP address, no fingerprint, no user agent, no email, no cookies.

The “answered” state is a flag in your browser’s local storage — honest limitation: clearing your browser data lets you answer again. Bot protection is a Cloudflare Turnstile check plus a hidden honeypot field.

Below 100 responses the page shows absolute counts, never percentages — and the count is never seeded. The displayed count may be up to 60 seconds old (edge cache).
